What does it mean to be a social enterprise?

The Progressive Pantry is a mission-driven social enterprise dedicated to transforming the kitchen pantries in Colorado. Our core purpose is to bridge the gap between local food artisans and conscientious consumers by offering fresh, locally sourced pantry staples. We operate with a commitment to sustainability, community empowerment, and delicious eating, ensuring that every product we provide supports the well-being of our customers, the environment, and the local economy.

As a social enterprise, we prioritize social and environmental impact over profit. We don’t gouge our partner producers but try to be the tide that raises all boats. By choosing The Progressive Pantry, our customers are not just purchasing high-quality, fresh products—they are actively participating in a movement to foster a resilient and sustainable food system in Colorado.

Our dedication to ethical sourcing, transparency, and community is our guiding light.

Why are your prices higher than a grocery store?

At The Progressive Pantry, our prices may be slightly higher than those at conventional grocery stores, and here's why:

  1. Locally Sourced Quality: We prioritize sourcing our products from local farmers and producers in Colorado. This ensures fresher, higher-quality pantry staples that haven't traveled long distances. Supporting local agriculture means our suppliers receive fair compensation for their hard work and sustainable practices.
  2. Sustainable Practices: We are committed to promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable farming methods. These practices often involve higher costs but result in healthier products and a healthier planet. By supporting these practices, you're investing in a more sustainable future.
  3. Ethical Business: Unlike many large grocery chains, we focus on ethical business practices. This includes fair wages for our suppliers and employees, and investing in community initiatives. These commitments to social responsibility contribute to our pricing.
  4. Transparency and Trust: We maintain a transparent supply chain so you know exactly where your food comes from and how it was produced. This level of transparency and traceability often involves additional costs but provides greater peace of mind and trust in what you're consuming.
  5. Quality Over Quantity: Many conventional grocery stores can offer lower prices by using cheaper ingredients and engaging in mass production. This often means compromising on quality, nutrition, and sustainability. At The Progressive Pantry, we focus on quality over quantity, ensuring that our products are wholesome, nutritious, and responsibly produced.
  6. Small-Scale Production: Our products are often produced on a smaller scale compared to mass-produced goods found in grocery stores. Small-scale production ensures better quality control and supports artisanal methods, but it can also be more costly.
  7. Community Investment: A portion of our proceeds is reinvested into local food education, community projects, and supporting small farms. When you shop with us, you're not just buying food—you're contributing to the growth and well-being of our local community.

By choosing The Progressive Pantry, you're opting for exceptional quality, supporting local farmers, and investing in sustainable and ethical practices that benefit everyone. We believe that these values are worth the slight premium and hope you feel the same way about the positive impact your purchases make.
